We are in a hot political climate, and I like to follow accounts from both sides of the aisle because I want to be well-informed. A common question I keep seeing is, "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" While this question often focuses on the economy, I want to take a different approach and share how my family and I are truly better off—not because of any political party or administration, but because of God's guidance and grace in our lives.
I am not here to sway your political views or tell you who deserves credit for our progress; instead, I want to share how my faith and hard work have transformed my life and how God has worked miracles for my family in ways I never imagined.
Where We Were Four Years Ago
Let’s rewind to September of 2020. My family and I were going through a difficult time. I was grieving the loss of my grandfather. I was working from home, my daughter was starting first grade remotely, and my husband was also working from home. Thankfully, we were blessed to keep our jobs despite the pandemic, but we were confined to a small two-bedroom apartment with noisy neighbors, dealing with all the stresses that 2020 brought.
My mental health suffered. My depression and anxiety resurfaced. We were cramped, stressed, and overwhelmed. But during this time, my husband and I decided to use the opportunity to pay off our debt and save for a down payment on a house. It wasn’t easy, but since we weren’t going out or spending on extracurricular activities, we saw this as the perfect time to get our finances in order.
The Journey to Our New Life
In December of 2020, we started house hunting. By March of 2021, we were blessed to purchase a home. Around the same time, I received a promotion at the hospital where I was working. While I was still working remotely, my salary increased, which allowed us to make even more financial progress.
Then, in April 2021, I found out I was pregnant with my son. He was born in December 2021, and shortly after, I was offered another promotion at the hospital, boosting my salary once again. Not long after, I was approached with an opportunity to work at a health insurance company with even better pay and benefits. After going through the hiring process, I got the job, resulting in a 76% increase in my salary compared to where I was just a few years ago.
Our Lives Today
Fast forward to today: We are homeowners, I have a better-paying job with better benefits, and we have expanded our family. We now have a son and a daughter, and we are doing well—thriving, in fact. When I reflect on the question, "Are we better off than we were four years ago?" The answer is a resounding yes.
It’s Not Politics, It’s God
Now, I want to make one thing clear: this improvement in our lives is not thanks to any administration, past or present. It is thanks to God and the hard work we put in to change our situation. People often look to the government to solve their problems, but I believe true solutions come from God. He knows us inside and out, and He knows exactly what we need, even when we don’t.
The president didn’t create us, and the president doesn’t know what’s best for us. Policies can affect our lives, yes, but relying solely on an administration for change is shortsighted. Presidents come and go, but God is eternal. He is always there for us, guiding us through every challenge we face.
If You’re Not Better Off, Ask Yourself Why
If you feel like you’re not better off than you were four years ago, I encourage you to reflect and ask yourself why. Life is full of challenges and hardships, but it’s important to focus on solutions rather than placing blame. God has a plan for each of us, and through prayer and action, we can find our way out of difficult situations.
My family’s success is not just the result of favorable circumstances—it’s the result of our faith in God and our work to better ourselves. If you’re struggling, turn to God. He has the answers you’re looking for.
Thanking God for Our Blessings
I want to take this time to thank God for everything He has done for me and my family. I give Him all the praise for our blessings, our home, our children, and the opportunities that have come our way. I hope that you, too, can see God’s work in your life and trust Him to guide you through any challenges you may face.
Are we better off today than we were four years ago? Absolutely. And for that, I am eternally grateful to God.
With Love, Heidy
