So, I am subscribed to a few newsletters, one of which is for personal development. This past Thursday, the writer wrote about The Law of Attraction and a little bit of the science behind it, and honestly, I’m now fascinated and wanted to share a little bit with you guys.
If you don’t know what The Law of Attraction is – it’s the idea that positive or negative thoughts will bring positive or negative experiences to your life. In order for it to work, you have to be open and believe that anything is possible.
But before we get to the science part, has this ever happened to you? You thought about purchasing a car, and suddenly, you see more of that same model when you’re driving? It’s happened to me, and this example was one that the writer used in her newsletter, and when I read about the science behind it, I was like, whoa – God is amazing!
Let’s get to the science….
You see more of those cars on the road that you’ve thought about purchasing because your Reticular Activating System or RAS is activated to focus on that information. The RAS is nerves bundled together at the base of our brain stem. The purpose of these nerves is to act as a filter between your conscious and subconscious mind. It filters millions of data that the brain is processing; however, it only allows awareness to the conscious mind of what is important or of interest.
How do we get the RAS to work for us?
Let’s say you set a goal, what you want, and you write it down and think about the details. Now that goal, want, or desire filters through the RAS and into your subconscious mind. And now, your subconscious mind lets your conscious reality show you available opportunities to help you achieve your goals.
However, this also works with negative thoughts because the brain doesn’t distinguish between positive and negative thinking. So, it doesn’t differentiate between want and doesn’t want; it filters out what you’re focused on.
Let’s do this exercise
After reading the newsletter, I looked up more information about RAS and decided to write God a letter. First, I wrote down my gratitude and thanked him for all my blessings. Next, I wrote down what I wanted and how I pictured my life in five years. I was detailed and specific.
Now, you do the same. Write down your goals, what you want to achieve in the next five years, and how you picture your life. Be specific and detailed. Watch how God provides opportunities for you and how your life changes.
God is incredible and made us able to do this, and I’m honestly in awe.
Let me know if you’ll join me in this exercise!
With Love, Heidy
Psalm 37:4 (NIV) “Take delight in the Lord, and he will you the desires of your heart.”
