Two weeks ago, I finished the book You Be You: Why Satisfaction and Success Are Closer Than You Think by Jamie Ivey, and I shared this message on Instagram;
God wants you to influence those around you right where you are. You don’t need a huge platform, a huge following, or a big stage. He wants you to do it right where He’s placed you. And you don’t need to compare yourself with others because your purpose, your talents, and your gifts are for you to bring glory to Him. Focus on Him, and He will take care of the rest. He wants your faithfulness; that’s it. Be you, the you He created you to be, because that’s enough.
In case you don’t follow me on Instagram, I want to bring this encouragement here because in the world we live in today, we have instant access to what our peers are doing we can easily fall into the comparison game. We can see what God is doing in Maria’s life, or that Ana bought the house of her dreams, or that Samantha finally got the promotion she’s worked so hard for, but what we don’t see is that waiting period.
If you’re in a waiting period, I have another encouragement for you from last week; you can read it here.
We don’t see what sacrifices God told Maria to make before getting to where she’s at today. We don’t know how long Ana had to save up or the trips and events she missed to buy her house finally. We don’t see how many late nights and early mornings Samantha had to work to achieve their promotion – all we see are the highlights. Don’t get me wrong, we love to see the highlights and the good things God is doing with our friends, but we cannot compare their highlights with our waiting period.
God has a purpose for your life and wants you to use your talents and gifts to bring people closer to Him. But how can you do this? Well, remain faithful to Him, and He will show you. For example, one of my gifts is writing, and I am using this newsletter post to encourage you about God. But I didn’t always use my writing for God’s glory; it wasn’t until I gained a closer relationship with Him that I realized I can write about life lessons God has given me to encourage others.
Also, you don’t need to be an “influencer” or have a huge following on social media to do this – maybe God doesn’t want you on social media anyways. You can impact others around you, like your family, friends, and community. Ask God directly how He wants you to spread the gospel.
So, first things first – be in the word, daily! Read the Bible every day, and if you aren’t sure where to start – Jamie Ivey wrote a Bible plan to go along with her book; you can start it here.
Second – ask God to reveal to you what His purpose is for your life and how He wants you to use your talents.
And third – remember that all God wants is your faithfulness; you are enough and have everything you need inside you – you don’t need to be anyone else. You Be You!
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 (NIV)
