Happy New Year! How did you bring in the new year? I hope it was just like you wanted to bring it in. Me? Well, it was just me, my husband, and my son for the first time (Usually, we get together with extended family, have dinner, and ring in the new year together). Actually, it was just me and my husband since my son fell asleep before midnight. My daughter was with my parents - she had fun. Then, on New Year's Day, my husband, son, and I drove to Georgia to surprise his siblings. So, I’m writing this from Georgia, although once you read this, I’ll be back in Florida.
Today, I want to talk about my word of the year - for last year. And why I’m choosing not to pick a word of the year for 2025. My word of the year last year was focus, and I shared four areas in which I would implement it:
Spiritual
My Health
Business/Podcast
Personal
Spiritual
Last year, I wanted to get back into reading the Bible daily, journaling, and Bible studies. I am happy to report that I consistently read the Bible daily and complete Bible studies all year. :)
The plan is to continue this habit this year and complete more Bible studies. I’ve even created a list of Bible studies I want to read on Amazon.
Journaling, honestly, has fallen off because since I started my trauma therapy, I’ve kept a digital trauma journal. And I’ve been focused on that. Hopefully, I can get back to journaling the way I was before.
My Health
Okay, this area is the one I’m most proud of because I took my health seriously last year! I lost over 20 lbs and pushed my mind and body to limits I didn’t even know I had with the 75-hard challenge. I plan on continuing the health habits I picked up last year this year.
I’m looking forward to continuing to see my body transform.
My Business/Podcast
I had some big goals for my business last year, but I didn’t meet most of them. However, that’s okay because the most significant goal I reached was winning an award for my podcast. This year, I’m making a massive shift in my business and focusing solely on my podcast. I won’t be doing launch coaching; my podcast course is still available, but I won’t offer 1:1 coaching like I previously did. I will focus on releasing great weekly episodes and securing sponsorships for the show.
Personal
I had mentioned that in 2024, I wanted to post less and take pictures and videos just for me, and I actually took a social media break for most of the year. I’ll do the same this year because I enjoyed living moments for me and not social media. I’m still working on being more in the present moment because my mind is always on what’s next.
Why No Word of The Year for 2025
I cannot remember which year I started praying for the word of the year, but it’s been a while, and I would always write a blog post to talk about which areas of my life I would implement to inspire others to do the same, just like this post. (I’ve always loved sharing personal development content - can you tell?)
However, as I was praying for my word for 2025, I wasn’t feeling it for some reason. Not even writing goals. And then I came across this post on Instagram, which said to take a screenshot to help select a word of the year. I selected - Capacity. And it said:
“There are times in life when we have the time, energy, and capacity to sit down and figure it all out. And there are other times when the best thing to do is to put it on the shelf and figure it out later. Wherever you find yourself in this space, allow yourself to be there fully. And as energy levels change, seasons change, you are allowed to ebb and flow. Honor your capacity.”
Reading this felt like God telling me to put it on the shelf and trust Him to figure it out for me, and that’s what I will do. He knows what will happen in 2025 - I do not—but I trust Him to figure it out for me, and I’ll listen to and obey Him.
This year, I’m focusing on these three things:
Sponsorships
Weekly Podcast Episodes
Writing (Personal Development Content, Podcasting Blog Posts, Book Reviews, and Opinion Pieces - These are all things I enjoy writing about)
What is your word of the year? What are some goals you would like to accomplish in 2025? Did you know that writing down your goals increases your chances of achieving them by 41%?
With Love, Heidy
Appreciate your reflections! In the last few years I feel like I've had a "word of the year" come to me, but I like how you're receiving the freedom to also let it not come and make peace with that!
Congratulations! Especially for the Bible studies. I admire that. And the health goals too! That's not easy. I wish you continuance and a more blessed 2025!
My word of the year is cadence. ☺️
