Week three, day four, of the Create in Me a Heart of Hope Bible study by (In) Courage talks about where we spend our time shows what we value the most. It says, “In Matthew 6:19-24, Jesus talks about money and materialism, but the overarching principle of His teaching applies here. In verse 21, He says that where we place our treasure (which could include our attention, our energy, our time) indicates what we value most.”
On the margin, next to this paraphrase, I wrote, “Where are you spending your attention and energy?” Which is what prompted this post. Also, the question asked in the Bible study after this paragraph says, “Read Matthew 6:19-24. Where are you placing your treasure (your attention, energy, or time) right now? Is that consistent with what you truly value most?
My answer is that I am placing my time on God (reading his word, completing Bible studies, praying, etc.), family, work, podcast, writing, my business, and healing. These things have been my main focus all year.
Here is how I spend my time and energy on these areas.
In the mornings, I walk and listen to the Bible; when I come home, I read a Bible study and journal my prayers.
I love planning family outings and creating memories with my husband and two kids.
I have this rare job where I actually like what I do (corporate job) which makes me feel like I don’t have the typical corporate America job.
My podcast is up for an award, and I have episodes scheduled for May 2025.
I’ve been consistent with this newsletter and providing a weekly post for personal development.
I continue to coach those who wish to launch their podcast and have also started providing editing services.
And as I’ve written before, I’ve been going to therapy specifically for my PTSD.
So today, I want to ask you: Where are you spending your time and energy, and is it consistent with what you truly value most?
Feel free to reply and share with me or use this opportunity to reflect and journal.
If you realize that what you’re spending time and energy on isn’t aligned with what you value most, try to figure out why that is and what changes you can make to align it.
With Love, Heidy
Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
P.S. If you need a copywriter for writing services or are looking to launch a podcast – let’s get in touch; I want to create with you!
